Reorganizing

Due to being sick and having issues with my hosting account, I was able to update the timeline of all my projects. They will still be completed on the same deadline, I just shorted some of the end weeks. I am still trying to figure out if I need to complete all the documents and steps in the web development process. I am tackling them as they come up in my task list.

While completing my clients’ websites, I am learning more about WordPress and different tools I can use. I had an issue recreating web pages, even though I imported the pages. I was able to find a plugin, Duplicate, where I was able to duplicate a page exactly as it is shown. This tool would have saved me hours in development time. I was even going to try to find a new template. Luckily, I found it when I did and was able to use it to finish my clients’ site.

All of my clients’ websites should be completed by May 3. Two of my clients sites are close to being finished. I am still waiting my other two clients to give me the content and images for their web pages. This would be the only holdups for these projects. I am going to let them know that not having the content at this late stage will affect their project completion date.

I was also able to add additional hours for meeting, research, etc., to my timesheet. I am sending an update of my client hours thus far to the instructor so she will let me know if I am moving at a appropriate pace.

  1. A really good way to motivate your future clients would be to add a statement in any contracts, quote, or formal documents that say something along the lines of…

“Any material that is requested of the Client is expected to be submitted within [insert number of days here] business days. If the Client fails to submit the requested material within [insert number of days here] business days without prior discussion, each day will accrue a $[insert dollar amount here] USD surcharge.”

    or

“Any material that is requested of the Client is expected to be submitted within [insert number of days here] business days. If the Client does not provide requested material within [insert number of days here] business days without prior discussion and the project timeline is extended past what has been quoted, the Client agrees to pay $[insert dollar amount] USD for each day (or week) the project goes past the quoted due date.”

Generally, clients don’t want to pay more than they have to so they might be a bit more motivated to get you the material you need right away so you can complete the job on time and they don’t have to pay extra.

    Just a thought. Good luck!

  2. I am glad you were able to find that tool! I myself am struggling to duplicate a page on one of my client’s websites, so I will have to look into that. And as far as documentation goes, I myself have seen that I have to tweak my documentation process templates a lot for each project as the needs of the project may be, and I am hoping that my ability to adjust these accurately will improve with time. I wish you the best of luck with finishing up your website projects!
