Perfecting Wireframing

wireframe

This past week, I was able to perfect how I create wireframes. I completed all of the wireframes for all of my clients. I used Justinmind for the wireframing. I was able to complete all the wireframe pages for all of my clients. It did not take me as long as I thought it would.

Now, I am worried I won’t have enough hours for my internship. Even though I have four clients, the original hours I estimated is not the actual hours I am working. I estimated my hours to be more realistic so I would not exceed them and quote a higher price. I am completing my tasks faster than I anticipated, which is good for the clients’ prices, but bad for my internship hours. I am going to have to come up with more work or projects to complete.

I am currently waiting on the wireframes to be approved so I can start working on the HTML prototypes. While I am waiting, I will start working on the prototypes, that will include the color schemes and visual designs for the websites.

I am researching the best prototyping tools to use for my websites.

  1. Oh no! I hope you are able to either find more internship projects to include for your hours, or I hope you can use the research time to help with that. A lot of my internship hours were research hours. It can be difficult to find clients that are willing to pay a decent price as they are trying to save money where they can, especially if it’s a smaller business. What I’ve learned though is that any moment that I have that is spent doing even the smallest task for a client, is worth charging for.

Remember, you are doing all of the hard work to put together a site. Your expertise is building and designing safe, functional, responsive, and accessible websites. You and I understand that there are a lot of components that go into building a website, but your clients may have no clue.

Try exploring different forums, job sites, or resources that discuss how other people charge for building websites. I have seen some people charge by the hour and other people charge by the project. The people that I’ve seen charge the customer by the project have specific things they will and will not do that will fit into that package price. If the client wants more or needs changes, there are additional fees involved.

I’m not sure if that helps but remember that your work, even if a portion of it is just research, is super important and you should be paid/count it toward hours worked for it. I hope this helps and good luck!

  2. When prototyping my website project, I made a test WordPress instance on my own server, and then later exported it to my client’s new domain once it was purchased. I know you mentioned in a previous post that you did not include research in your internship hours – I know Professor Freund told me to include research hours since every developer always has to research for every project. Maybe if you included your research hours you would have enough hours? I hope you are able to find enough hours, I myself am struggling with that right now.
